After a stellar debut campaign in 2023, Ben Shelton signed up to return to the Laver Cup, which will be played in Berlin later this year.
Team World completely outplayed Team Europe last year at the Laver Cup, and much of that had to do with Shelton playing amazing tennis. The American opted to play at the event despite a good run at the US Open, and he was amazing.
The score was 13-2 for Team World, and the American contributed quite a lot, winning one singles and two doubles matches, while remaining unbeaten at the tournament.
Now, the Laver Cup will be played in Berlin, so on home turf for Team Europe, and they're going to be led by Carlos Alcaraz, among other players. For Team World, Shelton will be back, as the event announced, and it's a huge get for Team World as he was so instrumental last year.
He's capable of playing really strong tennis in singles and doubles, making him a dual threat, and the American is excited to be back in the team competition.
"I’m thrilled to be back on Team World. Playing Laver Cup was one of my highlights last year, and I can’t wait to team up with the guys in Berlin and defend the Cup."
Team Captain John McEnroe was also delighted to have Shelton back on the team. He's one of the most electrifying players in the world. He's a crowd magnet and loves to compete in a team environment that reminds him of his college days.
"Ben thrives in a team environment and relishes the big stage. He brings an incredible energy to the team and is a threat in both singles and doubles with a massive serve and fierce will to win."
The 2024 edition of the event will be played from September 20th to the 22nd, and each team has already announced for players, who will compete at the tournament.
