The 2023 Astana Open will run from September 27th to October 3rd in its fourth edition on the ATP calendar.
The 2023 Astana Open will be downgraded from a 500-level to a 250-level since it only operated on a year license for the higher category last year. It will be held on indoor hard courts at the National Tennis Centre in Kazakhstan's capital city, Astana.
This year, the singles playing field has been truncated to 28 players down from 32 last year, as is the prize money which has been sliced by half. The 2023 Astana Open will commit a prize money purse of $1,017,850 in its fourth edition.
There is a massive disparity in the playing field in comparison to last year where as many as five top-10 players entered the event which was won by Serbia's Novak Djokovic. The new World No. 1 will not return to defend his title, prioritizing to play at the Masters 1000 in Shanghai.
But plenty of interesting names feature with the possibility of throwing intriguing matchups. Borna Coric is the tournament's top seed. Dutchman Tallon Griekspoor and Argentina's Sebastian Baez have each captured two titles this season and will look to complete a hat-trick.
The likes of Adrian Mannarino, Alexander Bublik, and Alexei Poyrin are all ATP titlists this season and will fancy their chances of adding to the trophy cabinet. Stan Wawrinka is still waiting for that elusive first title since his comeback and he might get another shot here. Wawrinka & Co. will want to fight for a fair share of the prize money amount of $1,017,850.
The champion will earn the most, taking home a trophy, a paycheck of $154,815, and 250 points. On the other hand, the beaten finalist will still collect a runner-up trophy and make $90,310, in addition to 150 points. Losing the semfinal will leave players $53,100 richer along with 90 points.
Quarterfinalists get $30,765 and 45 points. Winning a match guarantees players at least $17,865 in earnings and 20 ranking points, while those who fail to get into the winner's column at the start of the tournament will still fill their pockets with $10,915.
