2023 Astana Open ATP Entry List - Wawrinka, Bublik, Coric & more

| by Nurein Ahmed

In its fourth edition, the 2023 Astana Open will run from September 27th till October 3rd and will be held in Kazakhstan's capital city, Astana.

After operating on a year license as part of the 500-level category last season, it has reverted to its previous tournament level. This ATP 250 event was the first and remains the only Tour-level event to be held in Kazakhstan.

This year the Astana Open has been whittled down to a 28-player singles draw and while the entry list doesn't quite stack up to last year's field in terms of star power, there are plenty of interesting names who will feature during the tournament which will act as a precursor to a busier end to the season in October.

Novak Djokovic will not return to defend his crown, so the top seed this year will be Croatia's Borna Coric, who is still seeking his first ATP title of the season. Coric is one of three top-30 players in the draw. He will be joined by Dutchman Tallon Griekspoor who has had a career-best year in 2023, home crowd favorite Alexander Bublik and Czech Jiri Lehecka.

Sebastian Korda is the fifth seed. After a year that began so promisingly for the lanky American, he is fighting to salvage what is left of an injury-plagued season. French veteran Adrian Mannarino and Serbia's Laslo Djere complete the rest of the top eight seeds.

Stan Wawrinka spoke of his desire to win one more ATP title before retiring, and he'll get another chance here as the Swiss one-hander enters a very open field as a dangerous floater. Resurgent Alexei Popyrin who defeated Wawrinka in the Umag final is also in the draw as an unseeded player.

The tournament will announce three wild cards as we inch closer to the event, while four players will join from the qualifying rounds scheduled to take place in the preceding weekend before main draw action.
