2022 Italian Open ATP Draw with Djokovic, Nadal, Zverev as top seeds

| by Erik Virostko

The 2022 Italian Open will be the last ATP Masters 1000 tournament before the Roland Garros, held on the clay courts in Rome from May 8th to 15th.

Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal have won 15 of the last 17 events in Rome and are the clear favorites to win again this year as the top players in the draw for the 2022 Italian Open.

Alexander Zverev and Andy Murray are the only other players to have won the Italian Open since 2005, and the first of the two will also compete in the 2022 edition.

Former World No. 1 Murray was forced to withdraw from his match against Novak Djokovic at the 2022 Madrid Open, so he won't appear in Rome.

Similar to the previous ATP Masters 1000 tournament on clay, the first eight seeded players will receive a BYE in the first round. Therefore, the first-seeded Novak Djokovic will kick off his Italian Open campaign in the second round against the winner of the match between Lloyd Harris and Aslan Karatsev.

Alexander Zverev will be the second seed in Rome as he will meet the winner of the match between two qualifiers in the second round. The third-seeded Rafael Nadal will face John Isner or a qualifier.

The young Spaniard, Carlos Alcaraz, who keeps proving himself everyday, will come to the Italian capital after a solid streak of won matches in his home country. In his opening match, he will play against the better player between Cristian Garin and Italian wild card Francesco Passaro.

Another possible challenger for the title, Stefanos Tsitsipas, will meet a qualifier or Grigor Dimitrov, who he defeated last week in Madrid. Casper Ruud will try to make up for his unsuccessful Madrid Open campaign, as he was the only player from the Top 8 seeds that didn’t play quarterfinals. The Norwegian will start against Sebastian Korda and Botic van de Zandschulp.
