The 2022 World Tennis League started in Dubai and it started in the best way possible for The Eagles.
In the opening tie, The Eagles play against The Kites and it started with a mixed doubles match. Nick Kyrgios teamed up with Bianca Andreescu as they took on Holger Rune and Eugenie Bouchard. For both teams it was their first mixed doubles match as a pair and none of the players are known for playing mixed doubles and so there was no major advantage for anyone one the court.
Kyrgios, who is the 2022 Australian Open doubles champion, was the best player on the court and his attempts were seconded by Andreescu's performance.
In the first set, it was The Eagles who faced the first three break points. But they succeeded on all three occasions and got a chance to break The Kites in the next game. They succeeded in doing so and after Kyrgios & Andreescu added another break, they won the first set 6-2.
The second set was a bit closer but this time, Rune & Bouchard didn't have any chances to break their opponents. On the other hand, The Eagles had two break points and after using one of them, they won the second set 6-3 to secure the first very important win for the team.
Next, Iga Swiatek will play against Caroline Garcia in women's singles match and Nick Kyrgios will return to the court as he's set to take on Felix Auger-Aliassime in the men's singles.
