The Hopman Cup was last held in 2019, when Switzerland defeated Germany for their fourth title and it was missing from the ATP & WTA calendars since then.
Since 2020, the ATP Cup took the opening spot in the ATP calendar as the WTA Tour was left out from any team competition in January. In December 2022, the United Cup will start in Australia and while tennis fans thought that it will replace the Hopman Cup, that can't be further from truth. Also the Hopman Cup will be held in 2023 and it won't be in Australia.
For the first time in the event's history, it will be held outside of Australia and it will be in France. A five-year agreement between the ITF and Tennium, a Barcelona-based business that manages several ATP and WTA tournaments, will see the event hosted in Nice, France, from July 19 to July 23, with the Nice Lawn Tennis Club as host until 2027.
"The Hopman Cup, as a unique mixed-team event, has always enjoyed a special place in the hearts of tennis fans, and I am sure that spectators in Nice will relish the chance to see some of the world's top men and women players on the same court," ITF President David Haggerty said on Tuesday.
In 2023 and 2024, the event should be attended by six countries as France should be granted a participation due to being hosts. From 2025, the Hopman Cup should be expanded to eight countries.
