Venus Williams made a sudden appereance at the University of Washington in Seattle, surprising fans with her appearance on the tennis court.
During the 2022 season, the 42-year-old American played only four matches, when she attended the WTA 500 tournament in Washington, and the WTA 1000 events in Toronto and Cincinnati, before also competing at the US Upen.
She lost all of those matches, and with seemingly no more tournaments in her schedule for the 2022 season, fans were happy to see the seven-time singles Grand Slam champion back on the tennis court in an unusual setting.
Williams is currently in Seattle for this week's Amazon Accelerate Seller Conference. During her stay in the city, she has also found some time to hit the practice court, as she was seen on the tennis courts of the University of Washington in Seattle.
There were about 100 spectators for her unplanned "exhibition match" with Husky assistant coach and former four-time All-Pac-12 player Stewart on Tuesday afternoon at UW's outdoor tennis courts.
Williams recently lost in the first round of the US Open in both singles and doubles. In singles play, she was defeated by Alison Van Uytvanck, while in doubles, Venus paired up with her sister Serena, who is now retired, and they were defeated by Linda Noskova and Lucie Hradecka.
For Williams, spending time on the tennis court is very important in this stage of her career, as she certainly wants to keep winning matches and amazing fans with her longevity.
The 2022 season was the first season in over 25 years during which she didn't manage to win a match, and it was certainly disappointing for her. However, in 2023, she will want to prove everyone that she still deserves to compete with the best, and she's definitely capable of doing that.
