Simona Halep set to drop out from Top 10 of WTA Rankings next week

Simona Halep, the former world no. 1 and two-time Grand Slam champion, is set to drop out of the Top 10 of the WTA Rankings next week.

The 2023 season has already begun, and all other players are competing in tournaments, but Halep is unable to do so due to her provisional suspension. The provisional suspension has been a major blow for Simona Halep, who was on a roll in 2022 and was considered a top contender for the 2023 season.

The Romanian player reached the semifinals at Wimbledon and won two tournaments in 2022, the Melbourne Summer Set 1 and the Canadian Masters in Toronto. However, her rise in the WTA Rankings has been stopped by a provisional suspension.

Halep's absence from the tour will certainly have an impact on the WTA Rankings, with other players moving up in her absence. Madison Keys, who was ranked no. 11 in the world at the start of the season, is set to re-enter the Top 10. Paula Badosa, who played for Spain at the United Cup is also set to move up and overtake the Romanian.

On the other hand, Halep is set to go the other way as she won't be able to defend her points from last year's triumph at the WTA 250 event in Melbourne. She will drop out from the Top 10 and move at least to the 12th position.

It remains to be seen how long Halep's suspension will last and whether she will be able to make a comeback after serving her time. In the meantime, the WTA Tour will continue without her, and other players will have the opportunity to make their mark and rise up in the rankings.
