Raducanu Told 'Results Don't Matter On Comeback As Long As She's Healthy'

According to former WTA player Laura Robson, results won't matter for Emma Raducanu as she gets used to playing tennis regularly.

Raducanu hasn't played regular tennis for about a year, as the British player missed much of last season due to injuries. She dealt with ankle and wrist problems, addressing all of those surgically after the first quarter of the 2023 season.

The recovery would be long, and Raducanu took her time by opting for a more focused approach to get a proper restart in 2024. Now, she's back on the court and the first match back was a win over Elena Ruse 6-3 4-6 7-5 in Auckland.

It was a pretty decent victory, but it was clear that she'd need more time to find her best. The next match against Elina Svitolina demonstrated that well, and now she's looking at the Australian Open.

For fellow Brit and former player Laura Robson, who spoke to Eurosport, results won't matter in the coming months because she overcame so much, and just playing regularly will be enough.

I know how hard she's worked over the last, probably eight or nine months since her surgery, and to have all of those things done at one time, she was out of action, she was on crutches and she had a wrist cast on, she had an ankle boot on.

The big-picture outlook is certainly that - to be able to play regularly and not worry about pain, but athletes play for a win, and while results won't be that important, they'll still be necessary. Nobody steps onto the court to lose a match.

I'm just really happy for her. As someone who's really struggled with injuries in the past, to see her really shine again on the court and be pain free, that's the most important thing. For the next six months at least, I really think the results don't matter as long as she's healthy.
