Coco Gauff is set to become the youngest player to make a top 10 debut since Vaidisova in 2016.
Gauff was always uneasy with the comparisons to Williams, but they have always been made. She is currently on track to enter the top 10 at the same age as Williams which just adds to the comparisons.
She might have made her top 10 debut weeks ago, but the American needed a really good showing at the US Open to eventually accumulate enough points. It will happen tomorrow, Monday, September 12, the day after the US Open concludes.
It was confirmed by the WTA with a post that noted Gauff as the youngest player to make a top 10 debut in 16 years. Gauff herself has always been inspired by Serena:
"I think it's just the way that she handles herself. She never puts
herself down. I love that she always elevates herself. Sometimes
being a woman, a black woman in the world, you kind of settle for less.
I feel like Serena taught me that, from watching her. She never
settled for less. I can't remember a moment in her career or life that
she settled for less" said Gauff while adding:
"I think that's something I took from. As a person, I'm growing into being an adult and learning how to handle things now with the media and tennis and everything, I'm trying to learn to not settle for less."
