Why Cameron Norrie is 'ATP Bagel King' in 2022?

Cameron Norrie had a fairly solid season when he managed to reproduce last year's success and add two more ATP titles to his collection.

However, his first four matches in 2022 were far from ideal. The British no. 1 attended the ATP Cup and lost to Alexander Zverev, Felix Auger-Aliassime and Taylor Fritz. Starting his season with 0 wins and 3 losses, Cameron Norrie moved to the Australian Open where he faced Sebastian Korda.

As the twelfth-seeded at the first Grand Slam of the season, he was a favourite to win, but he lost in three sets and the American even managed to bagel him in the second set (winning it 6-0). That was only one of two times that the Brit was bageled in 2022 before he became the 'ATP Bagel King of 2022'.

A few weeks later in Acapulco, Norrie showed first super-dominant performance to beat Peter Gojowczyk 6-1, 6-0 and earned his first bagel of the season. In the upcoming months, there were no bagels delivered in the British no. 1's matches, but it would all start around summer.

First, he defeated Manuel Guinard at the Roland Garros 7-5, 6-2, 6-0. Then, he added three more during his sensational Wimbledon semifinal run, when he beat Pablo Andujar (6-0, 7-6(3), 6-3), Jaume Munar (6-4, 3-6, 5-7, 6-0, 6-2) and also Steve Johnson (6-4, 6-1, 6-0).

After his success in the All England Club, Norrie played in Los Cabos where he added yet another bagel, beating Chin Hsun Tseng 6-3, 6-0 but also, he was bageled for the second and last time this season, by Daniil Medvedev (5-7, 0-6).

Ben Shelton and Benoit Paire were the last two victims of the Brit this season as the American lost 6-0, 6-2 and Paire became the only player to be double-bageled by Norrie in this season as the Brit won 6-0, 7-6(1), 6-0 at the last Grand Slam of the season.

Overall, Norrie delivered 9 bagels this season, something no player got even close to doing. Alex de Minaur is the second most-successful player in this stat, winning 6-0 six times, while Jenson Brooksby did it five times.

Three most-dominant players of the 2022 season that collected all four Grand Slams, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz, all won a set 6-0 only four times and that underlines the dominance of Cameron Norrie that makes him 'ATP Bagel King of the Year'.
