Carlos Alcaraz has produced plenty of magic this year already, but none might be bigger than the break point-converting tweener lob of last night at the 2022 Roland Garros.
Throughout the 2022 ATP season, fans have slowly come to a realization that Alcaraz may really be the next big thing in the world of tennis. He has shown his talent multiple times this year, and he's doing the same thing at the 2022 Roland Garros.
After beating Juan Ignacio Londero in three sets, overcoming a difficult five-setter against Albert Ramos Vinolas, and also beating the 27th-seeded Sebastian Korda, the teenager took on the 21st-seeded Karen Khachanov.
The Russian eliminated the tenth-seeded Cameron Norrie in the previous round, so he certainly fancied his chances against the sixth seed in the match for a spot in the quarter-finals of the second major of the season.
However, Alcaraz proved to be too strong for his opponent in a match that started with a dominant display in the first set, as the Spaniard won it 6-1. But as the match progressed, Khachanov was able to increase the intensity, and both players produced some sensational points.
In the third set of this fourth-round Roland Garros clash, the young Spaniard forced a break point at 3-3, shortly after his opponent recovered an earlier break in the set.
The next point was played superbly by both players, and after the Spaniard's drop volley, Khachanov produced a sensational lob over Alcaraz that would have been a proper highlight in his own right.
However, Alcaraz had other plans, he not only caught the ball, but he also opted to add insult to injury with a tweener lob that was perfect., and secured him the needed break to win the third set of the match, and beat Khachanov 6-1, 6-4, 6-4.
