Sponsor Uniqlo has made available the gear that Roger Federer was going to wear on his return Tour this year.
After leaving Nike, Federer collaborated with Uniqlo in 2018, a brand that accompanied the Swiss Maestro during his last years on the ATP Tour.
Now, in 2022, many hoped that Federer would return back to the professional circuit, and for that, Uniqlo prepared a special outfit for the Swiss player, but the comeback never happened.
Federer retired at the 2022 Laver Cup, and that means that he ended his professional tennis career. That also means that the "comeback outfit" essentially became useless as the 20-time major winner will never use it.
His comeback shirt was supposed to be all black with a purple line across his chest. Since Federer won't be wearing that kit in Basel as he had anticipated, it is currently available for purchase at Uniqlo stores.
Fans can, therefore, use this opportunity to celebrate the retirement of a player who occupied the world no. 1 spot in the ATP Rankings for a total of 310 weeks.
Undoubtedly, Federer is a living legend, and while his retirement is a sad event for many, fans should remember his career, because also the Swiss player felt very happy after his final match.
"I think I feel complete. I lost my last singles match. I lost my last doubles match. I lost my voice from screaming and supporting the team. I lost the last time as a team. I lost my job, but I’m very happy. I’m good. I’m really good."
It was a doubles match with his rival and friend, Rafael Nadal, who accompanied him on the tennis court, and after their match, Federer said he felt "complete." Despite seemingly "losing" everything, he still won, because he was happy.
