Jannik Sinner took some criticism for not playing for Italy at the Davis Cup while recovering from his injury and Davis Cup captain Volandri defended him.

Due to an earlier injury, Jannik Sinner was unable to assist Italy at the Davis Cup Finals, which earned him some criticism from supporters who had hoped he would be there. Italy fought valiantly to reach the semi-finals but fell to Canada 2-1.

Volandri, the team Captain felt compelled to defend Sinner who has always answered the call to play for the national team:

"I am sorry to hear criticism of him. I spoke at length with Simone Vagnozzi and Jannik's blue future is not in question. He made himself available in the preliminary round in February, despite the fact that he was going through a very difficult period."

"He had left the technical historian and had all eyes on him. In Bologna he joined immediately after the painful defeat with Alcaraz in New York. To say that he is not attached to the blue shirt is really ungenerous," added Volandri.
