Rafael Nadal shuts down retirement talks ahead of 2023 season

Retirement is not on Rafael Nadal's mind as he is mainly focused on preparing his body the right way to stay competitive for as long as possible.

Although Nadal is aware that he's getting close to retiring, he doesn't think about it frequently. He understands that it will happen sometime, but he will deal with it when the time comes. He is still a professional athlete, for the time being, so keeping that going is his main priority.

"I'm still a pro-athlete and I wish it lasts," said Nadal during a recent talk he held.

He further commented that he is working on pushing back retiring as long as he can:

"I put effort so that it lasts as much as possible. Retirement starts the day you start as there's one day less to reach it. But I'm not at that point, I work every day with the right energy to not be at that point yet. It will come though."

Nadal is not expected to play in the Gulf this year but he will make his way to Australia earlier than last year.
