The off-season is a time of the year when players usually collect awards, but only if they have had enough success.
One of the players that certainly enjoyed a lot of success in 2022 was Rafael Nadal. The Spaniard started the year with triumphs in Melbourne and Paris, and despite not being able to add another major to his collection in the second part of the season, he was one of the top players on the ATP Tour and finished the year as world no. 2.
Therefore, it's not a surprise that the Spaniard was named Esquire's 2022 Man of the Year as they stated:
“For being, without a doubt, the embodiment of the best values that anyone would like to find, on and off the track. For having aroused the unanimous admiration of all and for demonstrating that effort, respect and humility are capable of moving mountains," Esquire stated, continuing:
"Even when it seems like everything is against you. For being a renaissance master. Of sports revivals, over and over again. The 2022 Esquire Man of the Year grand prize goes to Rafael Nadal.”
