Djokovic's Coach Reveals Plans To Skip Part Of Season After Historic US Open Win

Novak Djokovic's coach, Goran Ivanisevic, has shed light on the Serbian's upcoming schedule for the end of the ATP season.

Throughout 2023, Djokovic has been pretty selective with his tournament entries, and much of his preparation has been geared towards recovery and targeting the Grand Slams. Overall, the 36-year-old has played in nine competitions and won four, including his 24th career Grand Slam at the US Open last time out.

It hasn't been the most intense schedule for Djokovic so far, and it appears as though he will play a few more hand-picked events before the ATP Finals in Turin in November.

When speaking to Sport Klub, Ivanisevic confirmed that Djokovic would head to the Davis Cup next week and effectively said the Serbian has just one potential tournament in him before the ATP Finals.

"My future is to go for knee surgery. As for Novak, I know he is going to the Davis Cup. After that, he should rest well and regroup. I don't think he'll go to China, but he will have to play at least one more thing before Turin. Maybe Paris. We'll see"

In addition to advised rest from Ivanisevic, Djokovic is also likely to spend time with his family before gearing up for the ATP Finals late in the season. With a trip to China and possibly Asia off the cards, the world number one may be tempted just to focus on the finals and the Davis Cup late in the season to try and win more silverware to close out a triumphant 2023 campaign.

So far this season, Djokovic has won three of the four Grand Slams, with victories coming at the Australian Open, Roland Garros, and US Open. Even though the end of the season is drawing near, there is a high chance that the Serbian is already planning ahead to try and make 2024 just as decorated.
