Nick Kyrgios pulled out from his quarterfinal match in Tokyo against Taylor Fritz but it seems that he intends to continue in his schedule as planned.
The 27-years-old Australian usually keeps a short schedule and tries not to travel to Europe when it's not necessary. However, this year, he planned a trip that included the Japan Open and also the Swiss Indoors in Basel. Moreover, Nick Kyrgios should compete also at the 2022 ATP Finals in Turin alongside Thanasi Kokkinakis.
Despite withdrawing from the ATP 500 event in Tokyo, it seems that the 2022 Wimbledon finalist still plans to play in Basel as he shared an official statement from the tournament on his Instagram profile.
"Great news for Swiss tennis fans: Participation of Wimbledon finalist Nick Kyrgios at the Swiss Indoors Basel confirmed! After the commitment of Carlos Alcaraz and Casper Ruud, the Swiss Indoors have signed with Nick Kyrgios another superstar," statement reads.
"The iconic athlete is known as a great technician and rock-n-roller and will bring fireworks without doubt on the court. Be part of the tennis highlight of Switzerland from 22 to 30 October 2022 in Basel."
When speaking about his withdrawal on Friday, he said:
"When your body lets you down, it's not a good feeling. I know in this case it's probably overloading rather than not being fit enough. I think t's almost being too excited to get on the court and maybe training a little bit too much. So it's positive, but heartbreaking at the same time."
