Novak Djokovic is one of the most successful athletes that Serbia ever had and they pay him respect accordingly.
The Serbian is one of the most successful people to ever pick up a tennis racquet. Throughout his career, Novak Djokovic collected 21 Grand Slam titles and that's also one of the reasons why he's beloved in his home country - Serbia.
Dr. Nikola Vesovic, who made a discovery of new insect species, alongside his team, named it after the best tennis player in Serbia's history as he explained his choice to name it after Novak Djokovic in a statement.
"Novak Djokovic - for more than 15 years, this man has been cheering up the entire nation, making us proud, and during that time he has become like a family member to everyone," statement reads. "He is not only the top ambassador of Serbia in the world, but the best male tennis player of all time and one of the most dominant athletes ever."
"I have the honor and pleasure to announce the discovery of a new insect species from western Serbia that was previously unknown to science. It is a specialized, blind, subterranean ground beetle (Coleoptera, Carabidae) found in a pit near the town of Ljubovija."
"A scientific paper on the description of the new species was recently published in the prominent journal "Annales Zoologici Fennici".As a sign of gratitude and our need to give back to Novak in our own way, we decided to name the new species after him - πΏπͺπ«ππ‘ππͺπ¨ πππ€π π€π«πππ. Thank you Novak! On behalf of the authors of the new species, Dr. Nikola VesoviΔ."
The 21-time Grand Slam champion was obviously happy about the discovery as well as honoured by the fact that the insect was named after him. He shared news on social media adding a caption saying: "New kind of insect found in Western Serbia named after me."
Currently, world number 7 competes at the 2022 Astana Open in Kazakhstan where he will be playing in the quarterfinals after dominating in the first two matches.
