Nadal Comes Under Fire After Meeting Controversial Spiritual Leader

| by Balasz Virag

Rafael Nadal is currently away from tennis as he recovers from a recent surgery but he still managed to make tennis headlines.

Nadal isn't playing active tennis right now and won't be in London for Wimbledon as he continues to recover from a recent surgery. The Spaniard has been away from the ATP Tour since January after injuring his hip in a match against Mackenzie McDonald at the Australian Open.

Despite his best effort to avoid surgery and recover in time, Nadal didn't manage to do that missing Roland Garros for the first time in years. He announced that he'll undergo surgery with the intention of coming back in 2024 for what would be his final season on Tour. He has since provided regular updates on his status.

While he's away from tennis right now, the name Rafael Nadal will always be in the news. When you're that famous, everything you do will come under the microscope and that's exactly what happened to Nadal recently. He was photographed posing with a controversial spiritual named Sadhguru.

The spiritual leader is known for promoting pseudo-science and his views which plenty consider controversial. The Indian guru posted a photo of the duo on social media calling Nadal an inspiration to future athletes.

A pleasure spending time with you, dear @RafaelNadal. You are a true inspiration for the next generation of sportspersons. May your passion, intensity and determination find expression in all you do. -Sg

It received extensive attention on social media with many fans questioning Nadal over meeting the Indian. Some pointed out that such a move looks more in line with Novak Djokovic who has a history of engaging with what many would consider pseudo-science.

At least Rafa can match Djokovic in promoting right-wing charlatans.
