‘Nadal Will Be Roland Garros Favourite’ According To Medvedev

| by Zlatko Vodenicharov

Rafael Nadal has yet to play an event after injuring his hip at the Australian Open earlier this year but Daniil Medvedev is certain he'll be in Paris.

Very little has been known about Rafa since he injured his hip earlier this year as the Spaniard returned back home to Spain where he has been slowly rehabbing. We've seen pictures and videos of him on the court but nobody really knows how close to a return he is as there is very little information coming out of his camp.

I believe Rafa will play the French Open, although I'm not in his body. I don't want to talk for him. But he will be a favorite, even if he didn't play before. He won 14 times this Grand Slam, so he will be the favorite.

For Medvedev, there is very little doubt that Nadal will be in Paris. It's the main even for Nadal and has been for many years. Even if he doesn't play any events leading up to it, for Medvedev he'll still be the favourite. How could he not? Nadal won it 14 times in the past including last year though he won't be the only favourite. The Russian does see Djokovic putting himself in the mix as well.

Well, that's for sure [Nadal and Djokovic are the two favorites]. It's like before the tournament here. It [their injuries] doesn't change for me. If I'm able to play well and I reach the semifinal and then I see there is no Rafa or Novak, it changes. If I go far in the tournament, then the draw becomes easier if there are not those two guys who won 44 Grand Slams.

Medvedev ended his Monte-Carlo experience in the quarter-final losing to Holger Rune but he won't be in Barcelona next week. Hours after losing that match, Medvedev withdrew from the event.
