Rafael Nadal might not talk about his life often, but when he does, he usually says something very important and interesting.
The Spanish legend never had any hang-ups about talking about his life but often chose to be very private about it. He's a lowkey individual off the court, which is fascinating considering how intimidating and relentless he can be on the court.
Mental health is a pretty important topic these days, especially among athletes who are perceived as indestructible humans who never have any issues. Nadal opened up about that in a recent interview with LaSexta, talking about two instances in his life when he sought professional help.
"I have never had any problem talking about it, I went to a psychologist twice in my life, at two different stages in my life for two different problems I had. If you have pain in your leg, you go to the doctor."
There has been a longtime stigma on the topics surrounding mental health because, in a lot of places, going to a psychologist was perceived as negative. It got a lot better in recent years, partly thanks to prominent figures like athletes speaking about mental health, and urging people to take care of it.
"Maybe it has been a more taboo subject, but I don't perceive it this way, I perceive it as something normal and natural , it is just another part of the body and I would say the most important."
As Nadal pointed out, there should be no stigma there, whether a person is dealing with some problems or going to therapy as a prevention..
"It is an advance that people have the peace of mind of being able to talk about it, as I always had it, it doesn't seem new to me, maybe I don't see it this way."
