"I'll sleep well at night" - Tiafoe reveals motivation to win Grand Slam

| by Sebastian Dahlman

Frances Tiafoe nearly made it to a grand slam final last year and he'd like to win it one day because he'll be able to prove his qualities.

Tiafoe is continuing his excellent form in 2023 reaching the Indian Wells semifinal after beating Cameron Norrie in straight sets. The American has been on a different level since finding a spark at last year's US Open, an event he nearly made it to the final of.

It only increased his hunger to win a grand slam because he would be content with his career. A grand slam championship is all he ever dreamed of and he'd always look back in pride about achieving that.

Win a Grand Slam. Be No. 1 in the world, great, but if I can walk away from the game, I won a slam, I will sleep totally well at night. No one's gonna tell me s***. I'm gonna be, 'Oh, I'm a Grand Slam champion.' I will be pumped, preferably US Open.

Tiafoe on winning a grand slam

The American is not thinking too much ahead as he'd like to first win the Indian Wells Masters. One step at a time got him to this place in his career and he'd like to continue that method because it's working. His dreams are pretty big though.

Yeah, that's to go. And I'm in semis at Indian Wells, so why not try to win Indian Wells first? Yeah, I mean, I think that's the one thing I want to actually, to win a Grand Slam.

It's been an impressive fortnight in Indian Wells as he'll take on an injured Medvedev for a place in the finals. Asked what has been working for him recently, Tiafoe pointed out that his athleticism is at the root of it.

I'm using my speed a lot more to be aggressive, not just to react to balls and out the corners and stuff. I'm doing that much better now. Using my speed to be aggressive, coming forward much more, sticking volleys, and just being athletic out there.
