Lorenzo Musetti is one of the four players that are aged 20 or less in Top 100 of the ATP Rankings and he's the third highest-ranked Italian.
In 2022, he managed to win his first ATP title and added one more to finish the season as world no. 23. Musetti also participated in the Next Gen ATP Finals and despite failing to advance from the group stage, he managed to get some other solid results this year as he won 44 matches. Speaking about his season, he said:
“I ended a fantastic season. I achieved all the goals I set before the season," said Musetti in an interview to the Italian sports newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport. "The results went beyond my expectations. I am the third best ranked Italian player."
"My goal is to do even better. I hope to become the top player. It would mean to achieve great results, as Jannik Sinner and Matteo Berrettini are two top players and will return to the top 10. We are not rivals and have a great respect for each other. We are a great team when we play for the national team in the Davis Cup.”
The Italian tennis has been doing really well lately with likes of Jannik Sinner and Matteo Berrettini being really successful. Musetti would like to help them and the Italian Davis Cup team in the future, as he continued:
“We have a very strong team. It would be nice to play with our best team. Some players like Berrettini and Sinner were injured. I was very tired during the Davis Cup finals after a long season. I will plan the next season more carefully and I will take some weeks off to take rest and prepare for the top tournaments," Musetti said.
"The Davis Cup and the ATP Finals are very important tournaments These goals motivate me. If I achieve this goal, I want to prepare these events in my best shape. The win in Hamburg was the turning point in my career. I realized that I could compete at the same level with the best players in the world. I will have few points to defend in the first half of the season and I will try to take advantage from this situation,” he concluded.
