Patrick Mouratoglou recently took over as the coach for Holger Rune and he guided him to his first big trophy.

It happened at the Paris Masters, where Mouratoglou watched from the front row as Rune overcame Novak Djokovic in the championship match in three sets. Rune had long caught the attention of the French coach, and following Halep's suspension, Mouratoglou began working with him.

He has extensive knowledge of Serbian tennis and has assisted Serena Williams in getting ready for opponents like Jelena Jankovic and Ana Ivanovic. Upon being questioned regarding if his acquaintance with Serbian tennis had aided in his preparation for the final, Mouratoglou replied:

"I don't know if you can categorize Novak as a Serbian tennis player. Of course he's Serbian, but I think he's much more than Serbian. He's an exceptional champion. Maybe the greatest. We'll see."

"So it's probably, to play Novak in a final of a tournament is probably the greatest challenge possible," added Mouratoglou concluding:

"The only way to prepare a match against him is to have a very clear plan and be able to manage one's emotions and manage all the situations you will have to go through. We went through so many different scenarios during this match."
