Gael Monfils hasn't written off participting at the 2024 Olympics yet though getting a spot on the French team wil be tricky.
Monfils isn't playing at the level he used to anymore because his level isn't in the Top 10 level, but it certainly was near his peak. His body is certainly not what it used to be either as he's missing more and more time due to various injuriies.
And yet, he's still capable of producing some impressive efforts. He won a trophy in Stockholm recently by putting together the best 4-5 days of this year. He also played well at other times during the year so it's not impossible for him to actually get a spot in the French Olympics Team.
The competition will be firece but playing one last time at the Olympics on home soil would certainly be special. He was asked about that at the Paris Masters admitting that he's hoping to play but doesn't know whether it would truly happen.
Not yet. It's too far away. Too many things can happen before that. At the beginning of the year, depending on how it rolls out, I might think about it yes or no. It will depend on how it goes
Monfls has been steadily improving his ranking with the recent performances. He's currently sitting at number 79 which makes him the 7th best French player on the ranking. So there is plenty of work to be done in order to put himself among the top 4 which would give him a chance to play at the Olympic games.
As he said, a lot of it will depend on how he plays down under and at the start of the year. If he plays well then he could certainly improve well enough. Hisotrically Monfils has had some success in Australia as well as in the early indoor season in Europe.
