'Don't Think It's A Big Concern': Djokovic's Coach Brushes Aside Injury Worries

| by Zachary Wimer

Novak Djokovic's coach, Goran Ivanisevic, is not worried about the wrist injury that bothered his player at the 2024 United Cup.

Djokovic signed up for the United Cup to get ready for the Australian Open by playing a few matches, and he did that. He won his first match comfortably to start the event and then added another win over Jiri Lehecka.

That one came with a wrist problem that bothered him for much of the match and required several medical interventions. After the match, Djokovic played it down, explaining that a problem does exist, but it's not a huge problem.

It proved a problem against Alex de Minaur in the next match as he struggled greatly to exert any kind of pressure and was ultimately beaten in two sets. It was a very disappointing outing but also very worrying for his fans.

His coach, Goran Ivanisevic, did his best to play down the significance of the loss, admitting in an interview after the match that de Minaur played really smart.

I think Alex played very well. Very tactically smart. Yeah he has a problem with the wrist but it's important to be ready in 10-11 days.

Obviously, the Australian Open is going to be the most important tournament for Djokovic, and he'll have time to recover. Ivanisevic confirmed that his player will take a few days off and then pick up the racquet slowly to start working again. Overall, Ivanisevic is not concerned about it, and neither is Djokovic himself.

For sure he's going to take a couple of days off and then start practicing slowly. I don't think it's a big concern. He came here to play a few matches. He did. He played three matches. Overall it was a good preparation and that's what he needs for the Australian Open.
