Dominic Thiem wins first match since injury comeback in at Salzburg challenger

| by Drew Tate

Dominic Thiem made his return to tennis earlier this year but it's been a notable struggle for him as he dropped every match he played.

Well, not anymore. The Austrian made his return to tennis over a month since he last played a match and finally he won one. It was at the Salzburg challenger event where Thiem is playing this week ahead of his return to ATP Tour proper in Bastad next week.

The Austrian has dropped severely in ranking and neds wins desperately before he runs out of his protected ranking entries which makes it possible for him to avoid playing qualifiers. That's why he will play in the main draw in Bastad next week, due to his protected ranking.

Thiem played compatriot Misolic and it seems like his week of practicing with Rublev in Barcelona paid off. The Austrian showed a rather high-level overall beating Misolic in straight sets. What is especially encouraging is the 2nd set comeback because Misolic was up 5-2 at one point.

Thiem would save two set points en route to the 5-0 run that allowed him to close the 2nd set with 7-5. A good win for Thiem as he hopes to build up some confidence and form.
