Djokovic begins final week before dropping to number 3 in ATP Rankings

The Roland Garros fortnight is behind us, and after two weeks of exciting tennis, the new ATP Rankings were released, with Novak Djokovic at the top, but he won’t be for much longer.

Djokovic entered the 2022 Roland Garros as the top-ranked player in the world. It came from him being simply as dominant as he’s been for many years and winning plenty of points.

One of those events was last year’s Roland Garros, which he won by beating Stefanos Tsitsipas in the final. He didn’t do that this year, though, as he was beaten by Rafael Nadal in a revenge match for the Spaniard after Djokovic bested Nadal the year before.

Due to that, Djokovic will lose plenty of points and will find himself ranked third in the world, dropping down after a very long time, as he will be out of the Top 2 for the first time in four years.

Seeing the Serbian legend with the number 3 next to his name will be odd for many fans. Before that happens, a new edition of the ATP Rankings was released, the first one post the French Open, and the Serbian is still at the top.

He’s 610 points ahead of Daniil Medvedev, who has 8,160. Djokovic, meanwhile, has 8,770, but that number will drop quite a bit after next week. Number 3 on the list is Alexander Zverev, who has 7,795.

Rafael Nadal is not far behind with 7,525, with Stefanos Tsitsipas being 5th with 6,100. Behind the two is sixth Casper Ruud with 5,050, who has a tiny advantage over the seventh Carlos Aôcaraz with 5,005.

The rest of the top ten contains Andrey Rublev, who is eight, Felix Auger-Aliassime, who is ninth, with Matteo Berrettini closing out the Top 10.

The top 10 will look quite a bit different next week when Djokovic will lose the number one rank, dropping down all the way to number 3. Medvedev will take over as number one, with Zverev right behind at number two.
