Borna Coric wins 2022 Comeback Player of the Year

| by Sebastian Dahlman

Borna Coric finally found his best tennis this year and it earned him a nomination for the comeback player of the year award which he won.

For nearly two years, he suffered from a horrible shoulder ailment that made it impossible for him to play. He was only able to play consistently this year, and by the Cincinnati Masters, he had reached a very high level. He won the biggest trophy of his career there and went on to play well for the remainder of the year.

It was more than enough to win him the Comeback Player of the Year award. “I’m super happy to win the ATP Comeback Player of the Year award,” said Coric in a video message recorded for the ATP.

“Obviously it does mean a lot to me after a very, very hard season, and after my shoulder surgery. So all I can say is thank you very much from the bottom of my heart. It does mean a lot to me and obviously, I hope that my next season is going to be even better," added Coric.

He hopes to keep that high level going in 2023 as he wants to have more runs like Cincinnati one where he defeated five top 20 ranked players in a row to claim his first Masters.
