'Behind Closed Doors I Was Torturing You': Djokovic Thanks His Team For Support

| by Kadir Macar

Novak Djokovic is an intense guy which you need to if you want to be considered one of the best in anything, let alone a very competitive sport.

Novak Djokovic finally saw his name undisputedly rank ahead of Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal by winning his 23rd grand slam trophy. He's now alone at the top of most grand slam trophies won by a man ever with a chance to match Margaret Court's 24 at Wimbledon in a few weeks.

It's an incredible achievement for Djokovic who has never been considered the biggest talent ever. Very talented yes, but all of what is achieved is the product of torturous amounts of work and practice and a lot of sacrifice. Some of that torture has to be endured by his team as well which he recognised during the trophy ceremony.

My team, my family, my kids, my wife, my fans. You know how difficult I can be on a daily basis. So I wanna thank you, first of all for the patience and tolerance. Knowing what I've done to you last few weeks. People don't know but behind the closed doors I was really torturing you. So I really appreciate being my rock and being my support, and believing in me.

His coach Goran Ivanisevic had some interesting things to say during his post-match press conference, but he was also asked about the comments Djokovic made. Ivanisevic, jokingly, revealed some seriously troubling things that apparently include handcuffs.

He chain us with handcuffs for three days (smiling). He's not easy guy, let's put it this way. He is not easy guy. Especially when something's not going his way.

All jokes aside, Djokovic is a known competitor and he explodes more than once towards his box during a match. It's not something that should be surprising to anybody who is familiar with his body of work and it's needed. You don't become so good at tennis without being obsessed with every small detail you can control.

But we are here to put our back and to get beaten, you know. That's what the team is for. We are here for him easy. Sometimes it's very complicated But overall, this is for what you live, you know, the tournaments like this, the finishing like this. Was not easy. Was not easy journey.
