Carlos Alcaraz grew up watching the Big Three compete, and he recently gave his verdict on Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic.
Any time a player gets a question about the Big Three, they likely start to get nervous. It is a very nuanced question, and for most people, it's very hard to answer objectively.
Alcaraz is well known for having idolized Federer, which some of his countrymen have held against him. As a Spaniard, he was expected to grow up idolizing Nadal, and while he didn't, he still held fellow compatriot in high regard and took quite a bit of inspiration from him.
He even wants to make tennis history with him by playing at the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris. Speaking to MARCA recently, Alcaraz talked about the Big Three and shared his thoughts on the popular GOAT debate.
"Everyone has their own perception of things. For some it is Djokovic the best, for others it is Rafa, for others it is Federer. Rafa said that it is Djokovic at the level of numbers and I also think so. At the level of numbers, Djokovic is the best in history, there is no doubt about that."
The notion that Djokovic is the best statistically is basically prevalent by now. No one can't really deny it, and it doesn't even make sense to do so. There are other criteria that people that talk about the topic tend to apply that might change the overall outcome, but that's highly subjective.
"I think to say who is the best is something that goes beyond the numbers. All three are there and for me all three are the best."
Ultimately, what most people can agree on is what Alcaraz said. All three are the best three in the history of tennis. How you order them is ultimately subjective.
