Alexander Zverev is looking really strong at the 2024 Los Cabos Open, so will he advance to the event's final?
To get there, Zverev needs to overcome Jordan Thompson, who channeled his inner cat into surviving unthinkable scenarios against Alex Michelsen, having a seemingly unlimited amount of lives.
He was down 1-4 and 15-40 in the second set after losing the first 0-6 but managed to survive that set and then win in three. That's a lot of luck and skill, too, and he'll need a bit more if he wants to beat Zverev.
The German has been pretty good this year. He played amazing at the United Cup and played well at the Australian Open. He nearly missed out on the final of that event but will have a chance to make the Los Cabos Open final if he wins this match.
Zverev and Thompson have played a couple of times, and funnily enough, the Australian won their most recent match. It happened last year at the Japan Open, and it was a straight-sets win for Thompson, who struggled against Zverev before that.
Both of the matches before that happened many years ago. The match in Tokyo was interesting and quite arguably one of the worst matches Zverev played that year. He's playing much better right now, which means that he's heavily favored to win this one.

I really struggle to see a way for Thompson to really win this match because he should have lost in the previous round. Michelsen threw away so many chances, and I don't see Zverev doing that. I think this will be a relatively simple affair for the German, and he'll keep it in two sets.
Prediction: Alexander Zverev to win in two sets.
