Alcaraz Wants To Forget Last Year's Incident With 'Nice Guy' Tsitsipas

Carlos Alcaraz will face Stefanos Tsitsipas in the 2023 Barcelona Open final, and he's aiming to put the past behind them and focus on the game.

Last year's Barcelona Open featured a memorable encounter between the young Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz and Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas, marked by a heated incident. This year, the two established players of the Top 10 on the ATP Tour are set to meet again, this time in the Barcelona Open final, with Alcaraz determined to leave last year's tension behind and focus solely on the match.

Since their last meeting, Alcaraz has transformed from a talented player into a generational talent who will even transcend who the sport is taught. He's now ranked higher than his Greek opponent and it will be interesting to see how their final meeting at the Pista Rafa Nadal unfolds.

Reflecting on their previous encounter, Alcaraz acknowledged the intensity of their last match but expressed his intent to move forward. He praised Tsitsipas as a "really nice guy off the court" and emphasized the importance of concentrating on the game itself.

“Stefanos as well is playing great matches. Last year we had a spicy match, let’s say. I know he’s a really nice guy off the court, so I’m going to try to forget everything that has happened in the matches before, try to focus on my game tomorrow, and try to get the win.”

To prepare for the final, Alcaraz plans to review previous matches against Tsitsipas with his team, analyzing both his own strengths and weaknesses as well as anticipating potential improvements in Tsitsipas' game.

"Looking ahead to tomorrow I'm going to try to watch some of the games I've played against Stefanos Tsitsipas to prepare myself with my team. Understand what I've done well and what I haven't, and also what he can improve in order to anticipate."
