"After Wimbledon, a lot more people know who I am" - says Cameron Norrie

Cameron Norrie enjoyed the best grand slam run ever recently at Wimbledon getting into the semifinal and he's reaping the benefits of it.

Norrie has been the Britsih number one for a while with some noted performances in the past year. Some of them include his maiden ATP 1000 trophy in Indian Wells as well as a chane to play at the ATP Finals as an alternate. Despite all of that, he wasn't particularly known outside of the tennis community but that changed after Wimbledon:

"It was funny. You go down to get a coffee and the barista recognises you. t was like, “Oh, don’t worry about paying today, it’s all right”, and I am like, “Mate, I can pay for it, it’s fine”. I went to get my dry cleaning and they said, “Ah, great Wimbledon, you know what — this time don’t worry about it”, and I am like, “Man, it’s fine, I can pay for it”.

He continued:

"A couple of times I went for breakfast and people asked for photos and congratulated me in a very nice way. It is cool that people were watching and supporting as well and that I was getting some recognition. After this Wimbledon, a lot more people know who I am. It’s great for me but it doesn’t change too much. I want to keep pushing, keep improving."

The downside of all of that is the fact that Norrie did not get any points for that. Points he could have used in the ATP Race as he hopes to play at the Finals as well as the rankings where he remained outside of the top 10. Reflecting on that:

"It’s a bit frustrating but there is nothing you can do. For me, it doesn’t change too much, I am still in the main draw of all these tournaments and still seeded relatively high. But it is a bit of a shame not to be rewarded on the rankings side. If you look at other Brits — Alastair Gray and Ryan Peniston won a round, Liam Broady made the third round. For those guys, it hurts them more because they are pushing to get into the main draw of the Slams."
