Thanks to Maria Sakkari and Stefanos Tsitsipas being ranked high, Greece is the top seed at the United Cup which both players called special.

Tennis is not the most popular sport in Greece, but Tsitsipas and Sakkari hope their success will encourage more people to take up the sport. They are not mistaken, and interest could grow further as a result of the United Cup's opportunity for players to achieve some tennis success largely under the Greek flag as opposed to on an individual basis.

“Mainly what I'm most excited about is Greece is a very small country, as I have mentioned many times. We will probably be the No. 1 seed if our rankings stay the same,” said Sakkari, adding: “I think it's pretty special for our country like this to have."

“If we are the No. 1 or even 2 seed in the United Cup, I think that's enormous. Just a country like Greece in front of all the big countries like the U.S. and England, France, Germany. Just to have a country the leader of that Cup. It's big," concluded Sakkari.

Stefanos Tsitsipas always enjoys huge support in Australia because there is a huge Greek community in the country. He referenced the Sydney one in his interview for the event: "There's a big, strong Greek community in Sydney,“ said Stefanos Tsitsipas.

"I always have a lot of fun when they come around and support me in my matches. I think this is going to be a very important aspect of us playing there. We're going to get great Greek support and a very ambient court whenever we're out there playing."
