Italy became the third country to reach semifinals at the 2022 Davis Cup Finals after defeating the United States in three matches.

Lorenzo Sonego and Frances Tiafoe opened the third quarterfinal tie of the 2022 Davis Cup Finals. Despite great form of the American player in the past months, he couldn't answer his opponent's questions in neither of sets.

The Italian hit 17 aces along with 19 winners as he dominated mostly from forehand side. After an hour and 59 minutes, Sonego won 6-3, 7-6(7) and earned an important lead for his country.

However, Taylor Fritz wanted to fight back against Lorenzo Musetti and that's exactly what he did. World no. 9 in the ATP Rankings made less mistakes and dominated on his serve. After an hour and 35 minutes, he defeated the Italian 7-6(8), 6-3 and the tie had to be decided in a doubles match.

Experienced doubles team Simone Bolelli and Fabio Fognini teamed up to take on Tommy Paul and Jack Sock. The Italians were a better team throughout the match as they hit 20 winners and made only 6 unforced errors.

In an hour and 19 minutes, they won 6-4, 6-4 to secure Italy's semifinal spot at the 2022 Davis Cup Finals. Now, whole squad will be certainly closely following the last quarterfinal tie between Germany and Canada as they will meet winner of this tie in the semifinals.
